Full Version: Israel, The Nations, And The Body Of Christ

Stephen
Israel, the nations, and the Church [Body of Christ] are presented separately in the visions of the Bible prophets. All three are separate Biblical subjects existing in parallel as the Lord views them.

Israel is an ethnic nation (kingdom) that exists in the Land and out of the Land of Israel. This nation has been set apart for the Lord’s purposes as He moves along the time line of human history. He will eventually restore this kingdom and rule Himself personally on the earth. The nation will be the leading and central focus of all of the other nations of the world.

The nations (kingdoms) of the Gentile world (all other ethnic origins) are the composite of cities, city/states, countries, nations, and empires that have and will exist. This is the world of unbelieving humanity.

The the Body of Christ [mystery kingdom] is composed of all who follow the Lord and is not a kingdom of this present world. This kingdom is composed of all humans who have and will exist with no ethnic differential. It is not visible and ruling on the earth, but will eventually inhabit the universe including the earth eternally.

Prophetic Scripture has structure that includes the dynamics of scope and focus. The fabric of visionary prophecy includes details, compressions, time lapse breaks, repeats, parentheticals, reach backs, reverse orders (roll ups), and overviews.

O.T. visions and the Lord’s discourse (Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21) contain scope and focus on the kingdoms of Israel and of the nations. The Body of Christ [mystery kingdom] is revealed principally in Matthew 25:1-30, Acts, the N.T. letters and Revelation chapters 1, 2, 3.

End time visionary prophecy of both fulfilled and unfulfilled projections is framed by the 70 weeks of years decreed for the nation of Israel. All of the visions of fulfilled prophecy contained in the O.T. pertaining to the time of the end were consummated through the end of the 69th week and close to A.D. 33. All unfulfilled prophecy contained in the visions of the O.T., the Lord’s discourses and a few related references in the N.T., and Revelation beginning in chapter 4 are all scheduled for the 70th week and beyond. There is nothing recorded in visionary prophecy related to the historical time lapse between the end of the 69th week and the beginning of the 70th. The beginning of this time period is still pending and the start date has not been revealed.

The growth and development of the Body of Christ both members of the past and those living at the time will consummate just before the 70th week begins. The 70th week is the period of time scheduled specifically for the Lord’s judgment of an unbelieving intransigent world of humans. All of the members will be translated into the eternal state of existence in a moment of time and then the 70th week will begin. No one knows when these two events will take place and they will both come without warning.

The focus of the visions for the 70th week and beyond will then be national Israel and the nations and very similar to and connected with the O.T. projections of the same period. The tribulations of the Lord’s wrath and judgments during the 70th week will lead to His return and visible presence for the purpose of restoring the earthly kingdom to national Israel and the development of related nations of those who survive the 70th week as mortals. Only those mortals who believe and are saved during the 70th week will be allowed to enter the new world. This will be similar to the judgment of the flood against human intransigence in which all were killed except for Noah and his family who walked with the Lord. They were allowed to enter the new world at that time after the judgment was completed.

The Lord’s wrath and judgments of the 70th week will be more intense and specific, and will last longer than the flood. It will be a time of unprecedented trouble, vexation, and destruction for both national Israel and the nations. Billions of humans will be killed and the earth and related human infrastructure will be destroyed astonishingly and the earth will reel with natural and supernatural effects. The entire period will be replete with horror, fear, and unbelievable living conditions. There will be those who will repent and turn to the Lord during the period, but most humans will not. Those that do will either survive to the end or will be martyred for their faith. If they survive they will be separated out by the Lord at end of the period and will enter His millennial kingdom as mortals. If they are martyred they will be resurrected and translated into the eternal state of existence at the end of the period.

The Lord will eliminate human rule of the earth by His judgment process during the 70th week. He will also deal with Satan and the fallen angelics who have opposed Him since the beginning. They will all be barred from the heavenly dimension and cast to the earth at the beginning of the period. Some will fall from heaven and the others who are currently imprisoned or bound will be released. They will interact with humanity on a large and unrestrained scale never experienced by humans in the past and will cause great destruction on the earth, human suffering and death, and great delusions and deceptions to mislead and ultimately destroy all of humanity in one way or another at the time.

The Lord will use these fallen angelics for His purposes as part of His wrath and judgments of the 70th week. He will remove restraint against them and will allow Satan to conquer and rule the earth for a short period of time. Many humans will follow Satan and his agents and will assist him with his objectives not realizing his real intentions which will be to destroy them all. Satan’s actions will be focused upon destroying national Israel and all in the nations who will not worship him as their god. He will also attempt to prevent the Lord from establishing His millennial Kingdom on the earth at all costs .The Lord will cut him short of his objectives at the end of the 70th week and will ultimately destroy him, his angelic, and human followers.

All of the human dead (physical death) since the beginning of human existence who refused or will refuse to repent and turn to the Lord will be resurrected to face the second death of their spirits after the Lord’s restored 1,000 year millennial kingdom on the earth. They will face judgment and their names will not be found in the Lord’s Book of life. These will be eliminated and lost forever. The eternal ages will then begin with new heavens and a new earth and all that are involved will exist in perfection and for all of eternity.

Phew!! There is so much to tackle here that one hardly knows where to start.
It should be readily observed that this outline essentially follows the basic outline of the Novel Series "Left Behind." And likewise assumes a pre-tribulation rapture, as referred to in the quotation below:

The growth and development of the Body of Christ both members of the past and those living at the time will consummate just before the 70th week begins. The 70th week is the period of time scheduled specifically for the Lord’s judgment of an unbelieving intransigent world of humans. All of the members will be translated into the eternal state of existence in a moment of time and then the 70th week will begin. Without a "cousmation" [pre-trib rapture, I presume]. The entire outline topples. So that might be a good place to start.

Here is one problem as I see it in 2 Thessalonians 1

Paul first describes the current persecution of the church and then reassures them that God will make it right by paying back those who are persecuting his church and giving relief to the church.
“God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels” (2 Thessalonians 1:6,7).

Notice that God will do two things, he will payback the wicked and give relief to the church, both at the same time. Next comes the answer to a key question. When will God make it right? When will he payback the wicked and give relief to the church?

“This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with His angels (v7).
Don’t miss the fact that when he comes to give relief to the church, he also punishes the wicked, those who do not obey the Gospel, with “everlasting destruction.” And again to emphasize the point he already made, he repeats when it happens. “They will be punished with everlasting destruction… On the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people [the church] and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you [church], because you believed our testimony to you (v9, 10).

Paul is clear that the church gets relief when the Lord Jesus is revealed (apocalypsis) in blazing fire with powerful angels (v7). He even uses the Greek word “Apocalypsis” which dispensationalists claim is the glorious return that takes place after the tribulation. That creates a problem for a pre-tribulation rapture. The wicked are punished on the day Christ comes for the church. The problem here is if rapture occurred 7 years before the apocalypsis (or Great Revelation) of Jesus, the church would not receive relief until the apocalypsis. That would mean that the church would suffer in heaven while the tribulation is unfolding on earth. The plain reading of the text is that the apocalypsis takes place when Jesus comes for the church to bring relief to the church. That would be at the rapture, not seven years later.

Paul explicitly says that both the wicked and the church receive their just due, on the same day. This poses another problem for dispensationalism. The church is glorified in Jesus when he comes to get us. This would have to be the rapture. But on that same day, the wicked are destroyed with everlasting destruction. So how can there be a tribulation after the rapture if the wicked are destroyed? How can a team of 144000 Jews be converted to Christ and preach the Gospel to those left behind, when all of the wicked (those who rejected the gospel) are destroyed on the day he comes to be glorified in his church?

There are only two possible resolutions for those teaching a pre-tribulation rapture. One would be that Jesus does not come to be glorified in his church when he comes to rapture them, but only when he comes at the end of the tribulation. That would make no sense. That would mean that the believers would spend 7 years in heaven with God and each other, but they would not be glorified in Christ, nor would they marveled at by all those who believed.

Paul already made it clear in 1 Thessalonians 4:16f that we are changed (glorified) at the rapture when the dead in Christ are resurrected. The dead in Christ are raised “imperishable” and we put on immortality at the “last trumpet” (1 Corinthians 15:52-55). It is also interesting to note that the dead in Christ and those who are alive are changed at the “Last Trumpet” which comes after the tribulation.

There is nothing in the text to indicate that Paul is teaching there would be a span of time between the time the church receives relief and the wicked are destroyed. In fact he explicitly states that both occur on the day of the apocalypsis. The burden of proof is on those who want to make the simple expression “that day” to mean something other than what it literally says.

The other possibility would be that the term “that day” in verse seven would refer to the church being raptured and the wicked would begin to receive their punishment of eternal destruction which would climax in the final destruction at the Revelation of Christ after the tribulation. This too is problematic.
Even if one interprets this to mean the beginning of their destruction, it is still an everlasting destruction. They cannot be saved from their everlasting destruction. So who would the would be 144000 Jewish evangelists save. This does not even tough the difficulties posed by the question of which Gospel would those evangelists preach? But that is posted elsewhere.

The pre-tribulation rapture of the church is a novel and not a part of God's plan of Salvation which is unfolding in Jesus Christ by the power of His Cross.

This post reperesented by the abbove clip overlooks the witness of Jesus and the NT writers that apply the prophecies for Israel to the chruch.

One obvious example is Peter:
1 Peter 1:10 Concerning this salvation [NT in Christ and his chruch], the prophets [OT], who spoke of the grace that was to come to you [church], searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.Even a casual observer of the NT should be able to see that the OT prophets were serving the church and spoke of the grace, the same grace that abolished the barrier between Jew and Gentile.

Here is another clear one:
2 Cor 3:12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

Thank God for what Jesus has done for us!!
