I would suggest that one consider the possibility of the holy place referred to in the setting of the 70th week is the temple mount area and not a re-built edifice (temple). The actual temple was destroyed in the first century and is no longer there. The Lord said the days would come when there would not be one "stone" ..... He is speaking about the time of the end when He makes this statement. It is possible that the man of lawlessness will sit in the temple of his god, showing that he is god. Paul understood the relationship between temple worship and a pagan god. There are no instructions contained in Scripture to re-build a temple for the Lord before He establishes His millennial Kingdom. There are instructions for re-building in this future time frame. [Ezekiel 40-48]

It is possible that something could be re-built by the Jews to be in place during the 70th week. It is also possible that the current setting of the temple mount only may be in view. If so, then we may be closer to the Lord's return than some think. The current situation in the Middle East is not conducive to placing a Jewish temple on the mount and if current events move directly into the 70th week, then it is unlikely for re-building to take place during the Lord's hour of trial.

The temple is seen in Revelation several times during the tribulation on earth, but it is God's temple in heaven and not one on the earth. In fact, the outer court of the temple mount on the earth is "without" God's temple (there will be a temple there that is not God's and the man of lawlessness will sit in it) and the mount (holy place) will be trampled (controlled) by the little horn and his followers during his 42 month rule. [Revelation 11:1-2, 11:19, 14:15-17, 15:5-8, 16:17]

The first 1,260 days will include Satan's bid for control over the earth through his agents and followers. This period will be an extreme time of devastation and destruction including the fall of the "great city" of the Gentiles (nations) and the release of millions of Satan's angelic hosts. The Lord will continue to harbor (protect) national Israel from invasion and occupation (this has been the case since 1948 up to this day) until just before midweek. Satan's pawns will then be in position without opposition to invade, occupy, and add the Holy Land, Jerusalem, and the temple mount area to his dominion.

I've always wondered if a terrorist attack on the US and a subsequent failed government take over attempt by a failed Russian backed Arab confederacy would be the ingredients that causes the antichrist to step to the plate and bring order. He wouldn't be anxious to step into the unholy place as it would probably be unpopular after such an event. He comes in as a man of peace and wants his own throne. Building a temple today in three years isn't unfeasible....and the timing would be right.
Stephen
I believe that this pawn of satan's is the focus of Ezekiel 38 and 39. The Lord just addresses satan [gog] directly as the perpetrator. I also do not agree with the peace agreement idea ..... I don't see it in the visions. The covenant confirmed is identified in the text of Daniel 9 as the decree of the 70 weeks of years for national Israel. Only the Lord can confirm this objective by executing the 70th week at the time of the end. There is nothing that says this covenant is a peace agreement between the prince that shall come and Israel. Neither do I think there will be some sort of tribulation temple for the Lord supported in scripture built during, or before, the period of the 70th week.

What may be possible is an attack on the USA. This event could be the one recorded in scripture related to the destruction of MBG's "great city" by satan's beast and the other 10 kings. Depends upon how close we are to the time of the end. If true, the USA will be eliminated as a player on the world stage very near the beginning of the 70th week. I can give you the related scriptures if you need them.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Co 3:17 If any man destroyeth the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, and such are ye.
1Co 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man thinketh that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.

Too much human wisdom in the matters of the spirit , is deception, and God's advice is that we become and a fool , so we can get wisdom from Him.Strange that He tells us this JUST AFTER telling us that we are the temple.

Your spirit is the Holy of Holies, because that is where God dwells in those that believe this.
Your flesh is the mind is the Holy Place, (it is suppose to be constantly renewed by the washing of the Word)
Your flesh is the outer court, the last that will come into salvation.

What is your point here? Your responses tell me that you lack wisdom and that you are a fool. Why would you think that the lack of wisdom and foolishness possessed by a student of the Lord's Word is a good thing? These are the characteristics of the lost ..... the unbelieving world ..... who possess "worldly knowledge", but lack the Lord's wisdom and understanding learned from the scriptures. If you have opinions on the subject of this post why don't you respond accordingly instead of stating some lofty flower basket of unrelated scripture? This seems to be your track most of the time. Are you above learning the scriptures for increasing your knowledge ..... or do you think that you are to remain ignorant? I know the answer ..... but you need to think about just what you are doing.
C
I do think that if we only walk in what we think the truth is (and I know you dislike the word "letter" but then, that is what the Bible teaches) we miss the bigger truth.

You get annoyed, because some on this forum will not only look at the literal story, but they have allowed God to open the Scriptures to them. We actually need our minds opened by God , and that is what I am always on about. I want to stay here and I will keep on saying it. : We are not to only see what it in front of our eyes. We have to see what it means as well.

Maybe a temple of stone will be there in the tribulation. They are also taking away LAND from Israel. Many other "real" things are going to happen, like the wars and the armies, BUT if you insist on ONLY seeing that, you WILL miss it.

If you persist in your literal view ONLY , of Israel and do not allow God to show you the DIRECT parallel that they have with the church NOW, you have already missed it.

A very real example is: You are looking at Israel now and you can see how that in the Summit this week, they are discussing taking land from them

Now look and SEE: The same thing is happening to the church. It is just not ONE little summit, it is a WHOLE population of Earth and its leaders, that will decide to take "land" from us. In your own country, Jesus and His followers are becoming more and more unpopular, because He is not politically correct. He wants you and I to make a stand for righteousness and they do not like that, because they are living in the "Land of the Free" and who are you to tell them what they may and may not think.

Soon "Israel" will loose land . The Israel of God;;;;;YOU AND I;;;; will start loosing land.
The SYSTEM is coming against ALL of God's people: Christianity as a whole. That is why some will die, because they will say no to the taking of the land.

So, if you can understand the above, you must realise that not only in the type of Israel is God speaking but also in all the other types :The temple is a type and shadow as well
A real one can be built, but the real message is not in the stone. The real warning is meant for us to see and be aware of. They are coming after us.
I know you do not believe that, and that you will be gone by then, but I will then just leave this for you to put on a shelf. If what I say does not happen , then you have lost nothing................................................................If it does happen, you can remember this post, of this man who irritated you so much, and maybe, just maybe, you will remember something that will save your life

this is written in love and sincerity and I hope you will take it as that brother.

QUOTE
Our world continues to look for a hero. Most of today's citizens have rejected every great hero of the past. The name of Jesus is so hated that it is politically incorrect to ever pray publicly in His name. Our Supreme Court is determined alone with much of the liberal world to make the mention of His name unacceptable.

"Land" being taken

Sorry, but I cannot and will not walk your trail of corporate theology. You are on the wrong road and it broadens every day.
C
Stephen, you must realise by now that I am not posting to convince you, I am using your threads to post answers to many other people, This is the Word Wide Web, after all. This site last year had 500 000 hits and many people read here seeking answers.

Somewhere , there are those who will read this and understand that, that which they too have heard from the Holy Spirit, is in fact true and that there are others who know and believe with them.

Some will believe you and some will believe me. God is sovereign and only He opens ears and eyes.

It is actually not us with our clever words, but God alone Who allows truth to penetrate a heart.

Here is something for those who are interested in understanding types and shadows in the Bible. They are they actual keys, that God left us, so that we would be able to understand fully.

QUOTE
The OT saints could not understand how a reigning Messiah could also suffer the ignominious death described by Isaiah and others. Neither did they understand the significance of such a death. They had the Law of Moses, but did not realize that it was but a shadow of a greater Sacrifice yet to come. Today, in the light shed by the Cross, we can understand much more clearly what the Jewish sacrifices foreshadowed. If you stand in the shadow of a thing and look at the thing, you cannot see the details of it. It is indistinct and dark. But if you move to the other side of the thing and see the lighted side, that which casts the shadow, the details become immediately clear and your questions and curiosities are answered. Such is the case with much of the Old Testament. Standing in the shadow of the Cross, their understanding was very limited. Now, with the light of the Gospel of God's grace shining in its full brightness upon it, we can see it more clearly. The Law of Moses was a shadow of the Cross, a type, a prefiguring, as we shall see shortly.

Oftentimes a thing is described in the OT, be it a person or an event, a thing or an institution or ceremony which rightly is described therein, but which also illustrates some NT truth, often dealing sith some aspect of the person or work of Christ, but occasionally foreshadowing some other NT truth. Eve, bride of Adam, for example, is used in the Scriptures as a type of the Church, the bride of Christ. Adam, the first man, is used as a type of Christ, the "second man." The marriage relationship is often used to foreshadow the relationship between Christ and His bride, the Church. The Passover Lamb is used in the Scriptures as a type of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. That is, there will be aspects of each of these which are used specifically in the NT to illustrate an important truth, so that the OT example becomes a foreshadowing of a NT truth. Many of the rituals and ceremonies under the Mosaic system of sacrifices and feasts portray some aspect of the work of Christ. .

QUOTE

This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. (Eph 5:32)

This is the last verse of a passage wherein Paul lays out the ground rules for the love of a husband toward his wife and the submission of a wife to her husband, indicating that Christ loves the Church, His bride, perfectly, and that the Church ought rightly to be in perfect submission to Christ. Therefore, Paul authenticates the marriage relationship as a type of the relationship between Christ and the Church. Everywhere, then, that the marriage relationship is discussed in the Scriptures, there will also be a spiritual application to the relationship between Christ and His bride. If Christ loves the Church, then husbands ought also to love their wives, and if the Church is to be submissive to Christ, then wives must be in submission to their husbands.

The Holy Place
Jesus refers to the holy "place" and says that there must be correct understanding of what He is saying. He does not say the "temple", but refers to the holy "place" ..... [let the reader understand] [Matthew 24:15]

My belief is there will be no temple built in Jerusalem....until the millennium. I agree with your reference to the "holy place." It isn't a Temple but it is holy to Islam at the present. The Dome of the Rock where the "abomination of desolation" will stand pretending to be our Saviour.

I think so. If we are close to the time of the end then it will most likely be the Dome of the Rock, or Al Aqsa, that the man of lawlessness will sit in. The temple of "his" god ..... Allah ..... who is not a god, but a cover for satan. The Lord's millennial temple will be built, but not during the tribulation period .... the current size and arrangement of the mount today would not accomodate the enormous measurements recorded in Ezekiel 40-48. The Lord will have to change the topography of the area for His millennial temple and He will do it just at the end of the tribulation period. [Zechariah 14]
