Around or on August 20th, 2007, my aunt spent the day with us and we got into a conversation, as we usually do, about God. I eventually brought up how spiritual her son used to be. That is, that he had a sensitivity to things in the Spirit and he'd changed and had gone away from the Lord. She told me that something demonic always happens to keep him out of church. Frankly, that made me angry, it still does. The enemy is working hard at keeping us from effectiveness and keeping us from assembling. If the body of Christ would only WORK together in unity...the world would be a better place.

Later that day, I wanted to pray for my cousin. Here's some of what I prayed (I've changed his name for his privacy):

"Pick up Andrew, lift him out of that complacency, [that] demonic oppression and whatever else is going on and raise him to a high place, strong in faith and a bold witness...may the demons see Christ in Andrew and tremble...Lord, let me live to see Andrew rise, please use him in a mighty way Lord Jesus!"

September 18th, 2007. Sometime between 7:10pm and 8:30pm. It's the night of the ballgame between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies. I got some free tickets and brought a close friend from church. At one point, we started talking about my cousin and felt like we should pray for him, so we did. Little did I know until later all that had happened...

September 20th, 2007. My sister's art opening. My cousin (same one above) was there, so was that close friend, and although it's been years since I've seen him, I still recognize him. Something's wrong. He's got several stitches on his arm and he looks a little dazed. I find out that two days earlier, he'd gotten into a serious car accident. Everybody said he should not of walked away from it. Two off-duty MT's were there at the scene and lifted him out of the car where the driver's side had been crushed in by the impact. Strangely, they disappeared when the ambulance, et al, arrived. My cousin was relatively unharmed.

Since then, I've been receiving reports that his life been different. I saw my aunt this weekend and when she heard the prayer, she thanked me. She said that he's stopped doing drugs, he broke up with his not-Christian girlfriend, and recently, he's had such an insatiable hunger for the Word, he can't explain it. My aunt's coined a new phrase for this, she calls it "micro-showering", the act of quick cleanings of the Spirit to restore him to where he should be with the Lord. The other day, he went up to the altar and got prayed for and he said this fire built up under his feet and filled him -- my aunt tells me he said he felt like someone was raising him up, like he could almost fly. He credits these changes to the life-altering experience of the car crash (and the miraculous intervention) and a conversation we had the night of the art gallery. We'd talked about God's purpose for His life, what I'd been in faith for, praying for, all these years. Praise Jesus, I'm so excited to see that it's coming to pass, yes and amen!
