A SLICE OF APOSTOLIC LIFE
"Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord, I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia. Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place." (2 Cor 2:12-14)

A DOOR
" . . . and a door . . . "
Most all of the versions read "door." One exception is the New Living Translation which reads, "a tremendous opportunity."
From the standpoint of language, or lexically, a "door" is "that through which a rush is made . . . an entrance, way or passage into . . . used of the opportunity of doing something" (THAYER), and "an opening for entrance or exit . . . as of what is a possible or feasible opportunity" (FRIBERG).
Therefore, the text is speaking of the presentation of an opportunity to do something – something productive for God. It is a Divine provision whereby Paul was able to pass from one area of Kingdom activity to another – from one detail to another.
Other references to such a "door" are as follows:
1. John 10:7,9 – An opportunity to become part of the fold of Jesus. "Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep . . . I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture."
2. Acts 14:27 – An opportunity to believe: "And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles" (Acts 14:27).
3. First Corinthians 16:9 – An opportunity to serve the Lord: "For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries" (1 Cor 16:9).
4. Colossians 4:3 – An opportunity to speak: "Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds" (Col 4:3).
Therefore, while Paul was in Troas, a special opportunity was opened to him – an opportunity directly relating to the commission Jesus had given to him (Acts 26:20).
Several things can be learned from this expression.
1. There are opportunities, created by the Lord, that are to be obtained.
2. A door is something that requires a response.
3. Spiritual life is to be lived in a state of awareness, looking for these supernatural opportunities.
OPENED UNTO ME
" . . . was opened unto me . . . " Other versions read, "opened for me" (NASB/NIV/NRSV), and "the Lord gave me" (NLT).
The idea here is that the opportunity was especially presented to Paul. It was not one thrown open for grabs, so to speak, but was particularly tailored for Paul himself. What is more, Paul was able to see it – i.e., he recognized the open door, and was able to associate it with his Lord and his calling.
A door can be closed as well as opened. The door to the ark was "shut" (Gen 7:16). The door to the wedding feast of the Lamb will be "shut" (Matt 25:10). The door to preach the Gospel in Asia was shut (Acts 16:9). The door to Bithynia was shut as well (Acts 16:7). Doors – Kingdom doors – are not always standing ajar. Divine wisdom is required to detect whether it is an open door or a closed one.
Now, Paul testifies of an open door – an unmistakable opportunity to preach the Gospel of Christ. It was opened to him because of his involvement in the will of the Lord. He structured his life in order to fulfill the revealed will of the Lord – his heavenly calling. It is no wonder that the life of faith is referred to as a "vocation" (Eph 4:1).
ONE MORE THING
There is one more thing about this circumstance that ought to be noted. An "open door," in fact, constitutes a Divine call. It is a summons to involvement in the work of the Lord. It is a call for those whom God has endowed with certain abilities to engage in the work of the Lord. An "open door" works together with "the measure of faith" that has been dispensed by God (Rom 12:3). It also ought to be noted that Jesus alone can open or shut a door. As referred to Himself as "He that is holy, He that is true, He that hath the key of David, He that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth" (Rev 3:7).
PRAYER POINT: Father, in the name of Jesus, grant me grace to perceive when doors are opened, and when they are closed.

The Lord is saying to you today that He desires to send you that miracle that you asked him for but you have hindered Him. How have you hindered Him? You have hindered Him in what you have been saying about what you have been asking for Him to do for you. You have been saying "God can, He is able or I know He's gonna do that." The Lord says get into--the now. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). He said believe that it is already done or I am doing it even as you speak, thank Him for it. Don't use hope for faith anymore. Hope is a good beginning, but faith is now. Faith is active. Faith is doing it now. Faith is acting on the Word now. Faith is believing it is done right now, no matter what the natural tells you. You are not subject to the natural. You are subject to the promises of God and their truth.
(Mark 11:23) For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
(Mark 11:24) Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
You do not have the luxury of believing after it is materialized. You have to believe it right now that He is doing it right now by faith, then it materializes for us.
It may seem like a small detail, but it is a detail that can put you over in Christ or cause you to fail, if you do not implement it. Your conversation is important to God. He is saying that He wants you to learn how to do it so that He can give you your miracle.
(Philippians 3:20) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:
(James 3:13) Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
(1 Peter 1:15) But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.
I am still reminded of that old movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where Harrison Ford came to the deep chasm over a blank space and the trail way over on the other side. There was no way to reach it until he remember what had been written and took "steps" of faith. With each step, a stone pathway appeared right there in thin air. He walked on over to the other side. When you speak by faith that God is or God has already done something, you are building your steps to walk over to your miracle out of His Word and faith.

You must be alert and aware in order to perceive the spiritual reality that dominates at this time, and you must be instant in or out of season, ready to move with the flow of My Spirit.

He is the deliverer from all bondages and addictions. He is the salvation of your soul. He is the healer of the downcast, the sick and diseased. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He is the lover of your soul. Those who believe and placer their faith in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Is there anything to rejoice over? Think about it. Joyful heart.

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- into my heart and into my day. ...
As I watch and wait for You in the silence of surrender with an open heart and expectant faith, I hear You singing Your words of assurance and peace to my soul:
"I am here
I am here
I am here when you go through the darkest valleys
I am here when you climb the highest heights
I am here when you long to know that there's Someone
Who watches over your soul through the night.
I am here!
I Am here!
Look to Me
For I Am here
I am here with My mercy and My might.
I am here with you every day and night."
Yes, Lord. You are here. There is never a moment that You are not with me, watching over me, even living within me. As in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, You lead me and watch over me (Exodus 31:21-22). Your Spirit is continually speaking to my spirit: "Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.... I am here to help you" (Isaiah 41:10-13, NLT). Thank You, Lord. Yes, You are. In Jesus' name, I pray.

PIX: I saw foil packs of dehydrated apples in a large bowl.
In the preservation process, dehydrated apples have their moisture and water taken out of them. In the last days, the Lord is going to “restore” all things by adding the refreshing rain water of His Presence back in.

Heard: Get the weights off your soul. That’s what it takes is determination and commitment for healing. Oh yes and grace. I have family, including Sandy that’s in that mix.
{As soon as I heard that, I knew that He was speaking of mixture in our thinking. When someone is really broken and needs healing, they simply are unable to be determined and committed without His grace to be so. A truly broken person can not pull themselves up by the bootstraps and walk again without God’s enabling grace and help. It is only God’s grace that heals.}
WORD TO PONDER: THE TRUTH ABOUT HEALING 6/08/07
Beloved, I witness your struggles to measure up and get healed. I see all that you do to get your life back into order. I see your efforts and your collapses. Your tears are on My cheeks. Precious one, determination and commitment are wonderful gifts that I give to help you accomplish tasks and goals. But without My grace, it is the power of flesh, the arm of might and sure grit of soul. Human effort will quickly burn without My enablement.
Would you like to be healed? First repent of all choices that do not line up with My Word. I will give you grace to make your commitments and determination to not sin in your deeds, attitudes and motives. After you repent, then I will send you the refreshing rain of My sweet Presence. My rain is My love language that enraptures us together and energizes you with the breath of My kisses upon your body, soul and spirit. As you soak in My Presence, My refreshing water will pour back into your dry and parched places and bring you back to health and restoration.
