I went searching on the internet for what other people were saying about reading the bible in the restroom.. i was really glad when i found a Christian forum where someone had already posed this crazy question.. and there was some talk of it. - - -

LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT THIS WAS A CHRISTIAN MENS FORUM - and i'm definitely female haha so i posted a recant (sort of).. but i wanted to be able to discuss it with a Christian community - so i am posting here what came to me when i was reading one of the responses to the idea of reading the bible on the toilet.. and if its an okay thing to do...

please let me know what your thoughts are on it!!

lol so i just joined the forums... and this is what caused me to find you guys...

i read my bible a lot... there are some days however where the most time i spend reading it are when i am in the bathroom... i have only felt at moments that there was something weird about that... but after reading what some of you have said...

it makes sense that if God can deal with our poop (sin) and forgive us for it, and allow us with our dirty rags of human righteousness - to enter into heaven with Him, only by believing in Jesus Christ Son of God and also God himself - (THAT IS THE SWEETEST GIFT - OH MAN IS IT SWEET)

then why wouldn't He want us to read His word whenever we could? i mean, when we are in the depths of sin, God especially wants us to be reading his word...

so why not when i'm actually pooping?

God calls us to go and pray in private behind closed doors... (also called us to pray in many other situations too...)
in certain situations its hard to get to a place where you are alone (a family get together, friends over at your house, etc.. ), and when you are in the bathroom... who else wants to be in there and smell your stench?

well Jesus Christ wants to take us to heaven Stench and all... and He will be there with us no matter what we are doing (although ill bet some of the awful things He saw, turned Jesus' stomach over... just as smelling the stench of someone else's poop would)

haha <3

Yeah... you've said it all!

I'll add

Isaiah 64:6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

the word "filthy" Strong's Number: 05708

the original is "d[" from an unused root meaning to set a period [compare (05710), (05749)]

it means = menstruation, filthy rag, stained garment (fig. of best deeds of guilty people)

those things we think we have done in such piety and righteousness...

are nothing more than menstruation rags

But the Lord loves us...

Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

He wants that private time with us... whether in the bathroom or at the kitchen table. He created us - so there ain't nothing He hasn't seen before.

Very well said Dani! I must admit that the restroom is my prayer closet blush.gif ..... It is actually the place where I have cried out to the Lord more than any other place in my life. My prayer before giving my heart to the Lord was in a restroom stall in a Comedy Club. And oddly enough it has been my prayer closet since. Actually mine is the tub but same difference I think. I have read and said many prayers on the toilet and in the tub. With only having 1 restroom and 4 girls in a small house you learn to find anyplace that is quiet smile.gif . Early on after giving my heart to the Lord this was the place I found! Just like Dani said..... He sees us how we really are... there is no hiding with Him. Some may disagree with this but it is my own little quiet place that I have found with my Lord!

Not sure if this makes you feel better,

but the Religious Jews pray in the toilet too. They thank G_d for thier bodies ability to function.

Also....... Martin Luther regularly prayed while "going" he made comment of it in his writings.

LOL--- but yeah I read and pray on the toilet too sometimes. When I had no home I used to have to share space in shelters with people---so the bathroom was my only place for quiet time. blush.gif

I have a 2 year old. Sometimes that's the only chance I get to read.

Shalom,

Let me make this into another question.
Is there a better place to read about getting off the throne of "SELF" (a dirty four letter word for sin) than when you are sitting on the throne?
