1Jn 5:18 We know that whosoever is begotten of God sinneth not; but he that was begotten of God keepeth himself, and the evil one toucheth him not.

When I first read this , my stomach turned and my mind raced and I felt fear and insecurity. Does this now mean that I am NOT born of God, because I knew that I sometimes still sinned.

Good news: Your spirit is born of God. Your mind and body is not yet.

How do I know that? The Bible tells me so. Paul also struggled and then God showed him the truth:Rom 7:17 So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.
"I" being the born again spirit man
and
"sin that dwelleth in me" being the flesh that needs to be crucified every day and this flesh we also have to
"recon dead"Rom 6:11 Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin,

Paul knew that salvation was an ongoing process. It started with our spirit being born from above (by faith in the done works of Jesus and accepting what He did at the cross)

then, God moves on to the soul: (your thoughts and emotions), because that is not saved yet as we can see here:

Rom 12:2 And be not fashioned according to this world:(this tells us that we must move out of the way of the world and its thinking) but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, (That would be replacing your old way of thinking with the new way of thinking, which is :agreeing with the Word of God)and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

And lastly God will save the body:Php 3:21 who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working whereby he is able even to subject all things unto himself.

So God has a plan for each section:1Th 5:23 And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here is shows that it will and can happen in THIS life and not only in heaven.
