Full Version: Zimbabwe Moving To Disaster

Water shortages in the Zimbabwean capital Harare have led to worsening outbreaks of diarrhoea with health centres treating around 900 cases per day, it was reported Monday. Each of Harare's 60 council health centres is treating at least 15 cases of diarrhoea per day, city health director Prosper Chonzi told the state-controlled Herald daily. Some of the patients are suffering from life-threatening dysentery. The real number of cases is likely to be much higher, as figures of those consulting private doctors and other government health centres were not immediately available. So serious is the problem that city health centres have been ordered to treat diarrhoea patients for free to stop the spread of disease, said the Herald. Water supplies in some suburbs of Harare, once known as the Sunshine City, have been erratic for at least two years. Residents have to make do with buying water from those lucky enough to have wells or using untreated sources of the commodity. Broken sewerage systems which often lie unfixed for months are compounding the problem. The worst affected suburbs are the low-income areas of Hatcliffe Extension, Mabvuku, Tafara, Budiriro and Kuwadzana, which sometimes go for up to three consecutive days without running water, according to the Herald. Chonzi said that before the onset of the water shortages, council clinics dealt with very few cases of diarrhoea.

"We have a persistent problem and have decided to continue treating all diarrhoea-related cases free of charge," he said. Water supply in Zimbabwe's cities has been mired in controversy since President Robert Mugabe's government ordered that water management be transferred from city councils - some of them controlled by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) - to the state-controlled ZINWA water authority. The move led to an outcry from many residents, who also have to contend with shortages of power, fuel, medicine and basic commodities like bread and meat. News of Harare's diarrhoea outbreak comes just a day after a prominent doctor and ruling party supporter warned ZINWA was working hard to create an epidemic. "The fact that people now move around with buckets looking for water to drink from burst pipes in a cosmopolitan city like Harare is a complete shame and a recipe for disaster," Paul Chimedza wrote in the state-controlled Sunday Mail newspaper. "ZINWA is sure working hard to get its name in the Guinness Book of Records as the most useless and inefficient organization," he added, in unusually strong criticism from a government supporter. And in another rare concession Monday, Environment Minister Francis Nhema admitted Zimbabwe had "messed up" the environment. "People now realise that we messed up our environment and even the underground water which used to be safe to drink is no longer safe because we have killed the water table flows with our actions," said Nhema, who currently chairs the UN's Commission on Sustainable Development.)

So many blessings here in the USA, so much taken for granted. God is so merciful and so good to so many that do not deserve His blessings, (self included) and as I sit and think of these things and read this post, I just pray to the Father now in the neme of Jesusl, that You, Lord would be merciful to all of these people as well, and heal physically and bring clean water for the multitude that is in such need, but also Lord, let Your Gospel be heard and true healing take place. In Jesus Your Son's Holy Name.

Dear Father, you are worthy of all praise, honor, glory, and blessing.

I agree with my brother, Chris, in his prayer for you to pour out your mercies upon the people of Zimbabwe. Please bring healing, water provision, and laborers that will take them their most urgent need as well--the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ, along with his love and care.

In the name of Jesus I ask,

mellow.gif It is certainly a very sorrowful thing when a mentally challenged (or demon possesed)
leader can inflict so much pain and suffering on his OWN people. I pray that this man is not
left in power much longer to hurt his country... I pray Jesus that you would remove this man
from power and that the name of the Lord be lifted up, above all other names... the King of Kings
and the Lord of Lords... in Jesus name I pray, Amen!

rolleyes.gif Blessed be the name of the Lord, even so Lord come quickly.

Mugabe's critics say corruption and his stewardship of the economy have led to the crisis. They point to the often-violent, government seizures of thousands of white-owned commercial farms that began in 2000 and disrupted the agriculture-based economy in what was once a regional breadbasket

I laugh when I read this. Its not what the critics say:Its really a fact. Mugabe kills anybody that opens their mouths against him. He is in fact worse than Saddam, but (sorry to say, but its true) his country has nothing to offer that would make any nation step out and save the Zimbabweans. Why bother, they have no oil.

Its like when the Hutu massacred their countrymen with pangas. Slaughtered the Christians, cut them to bits and some priests pushed the victims out of the churches, to try and save their own lives. The world looked on and the powers that could have saved were advised to "first let them settle it amongst themselves" in other word. "Nothing to gain, let them die"

Do you know that those people died , because the Belgians told them that those with longer noses were better than those with flat noses? Longer noses were more "European". So the Hutu were looked down upon and a hatred started that resulted in genocide in Rwanda in 1994. Google it. All because some Belgian liked a longer nose.

Sorry for being blunt, but I live here. I know Africa and I know and see what is happening. This started in 2000 when they killed the white farmers and took their farms. The world shook their heads and clicked their tongues "Poor white farmers.....sad story" Now the country is dying, Really really dying. People are starving because the world allows a megalomaniac to rule. He lives in $4,2 million house in luxury, imports his food, tells everybody that there is no problem and if there is one, it is all because of British rule (which ended so long ago, I cannot even remember). He tells everybody that there IS food , well yea, he does have food.

This week that last bakery ran out of flour for bread. Now a whole country is without. Can you imagine the whole of the USA running out of food, gas, clean water, meat and ALL food products. There are NOTHING on the shelves of the shops. Nothing like in 0. You will be hearing soon of the multiple deaths of starvation.

South Africa is receiving thousands of refugees that have crossed the border. Some were shot by their OWN people, trying to stop them from escaping.

Interesting side note: Do you know that the same day of terror is being planned for South Africa as in Rwanda? , the day that Mandela dies? A day where the white man must die under the blade? Its common knowledge here in SA." The night of the long knives" its called. Talk to a black man, and many will laugh and say: "Its OK that you know, because you cannot do anything about it" God showed me this about a year ago, before I even knew anything about it. Later I read an old prophecy that came through a woman in 1911. She told of all the blood in Johannesburg. She said (in 1911) " How can this be, there are not so many people living in Johannesburg, I saw the river run red with blood"
On many a black man's car you can read a sticker" Wait! The time is not yet"

I wonder why immigration is slow to SA? smile.gif

The same lady said: The only ones who will survive are those who have the blood of Jesus in their hearts.

SO : Praise God, we stand in Psalm 91.
ALso : The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe !
The Word of the Lord came to Abraham and said: Fear not, ...... I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Praise God.HIs Word is my shield. Blood will flow but:

Psa 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psa 91:2 I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust.
Psa 91:3 For he will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the deadly pestilence.
Psa 91:4 He will cover thee with his pinions, And under his wings shalt thou take refuge: His truth is a shield and a buckler.
Psa 91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, Nor for the arrow(or blade) that flieth by day;
Psa 91:6 For the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Psa 91:7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But it shall not come nigh thee.
Psa 91:8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold, And see the reward of the wicked.
Psa 91:9 For thou, O Jehovah, art my refuge! Thou hast made the Most High thy habitation;
Psa 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent.
Psa 91:11 For he will give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways.
Psa 91:12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Psa 91:13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the serpent shalt thou trample under foot.
Psa 91:14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Psa 91:15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honor him.
Psa 91:16 With long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation.

Amen !

You've got my prayers dear brother...always.

Thank you Lisa. I did not want to talk about this really, but looking at Zim and seeing the non-caring attitude of the world , turns my stomach. I cannot believe that money plays the ONLY part in decisions to help or not to help. How true the Bible is. The love of money is the root of all evil.

I know these things must happen, it has been prophesied, but it is still sad to see it in real life. But these things must happen, so that Christ will come forth in His people. Faith , dear friend smile.gif LIVING faith , fruit, is what He is after. Christ in us the hope of glory. The more difficult the situation, the more we see that we need HIM. When things look so dark, we turn to Him for help and that is what God wants. Its sad that it sometimes takes fear and tribulation to turn God's own towards Him in desperate faith > Its then when we call out with all our heart. Our nation was/is also known as a Christian nation , so we are also guilty of leaving God, turning away from Him.
Churches here are chasing money. Naming and claiming. Gathering in their own barns, storing up. Bigger churches, more seats, more money. Bums on pews are counted and the message gets kicked off every Sunday with a small sermon on giving. Then when everybody is either scared of being cursed for not giving, or greedy to get blessed by sowing, the basket comes around. My paster friend told me if he goes onto TV, he could increase the income of the church with xxx% because xx people watched and that statistics showed that if xx watched, xx% would give when asked. All worked out and planned.
I see greed everywhere.
Our one radio station, that use to be Christian oriented : On air one lady said. "Well you can be a Hindu Christian" and the station is getting calls that complain because "Every time we listen, somebody is talking about God, or praying, we are sick of it"
My country is going down like your country and every other country in the world. A lot of religion, but I see no real faith. People here think faith is believing IN God. They do believe IN Him, but they do not believe Him.

That same station has asked me to come on air, and give my testimony. I am going to do so soon.My heart is breaking for the church and that day I pray that the Lord will give me grace to open my mouth and not fear. Thanks for your prayers Lisa. You are a very dear sister of mine.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second city, already reeling from a diarrhoea outbreak as a result of water shortages, has been told by its fuel-strapped city council that it can only collect refuse once a month. Garbage has been piling up around the city centre and a stench has now enveloped most high-density suburbs, where refuse has not been collected for the past 3 weeks. Bulawayo has recorded 3,600 cases of diarrhoea since the disease hit the city in August 2007. "The issue of refuse collection touches directly on health as we face serious disease outbreaks, and the situation we are in will be worsened by the water shortages we are facing at the moment, and diarrhoea-related cases will increase as a result," said Japhet Ndabeni-Ncube, the mayor.

Zanele Hwalima, director of health services, warned that the uncollected refuse could cause a possible rodent problem, which could expose residents to other diseases. "The risk of disease outbreaks will be high ... apart from [rodents] destroying food stores, there is the risk that the rodents will carry plague and contaminate food they come into contact with when they invade people's homes." Zimbabwe, battling a long-running economic meltdown, has been severely hit by foreign exchange shortages that have affected its ability to import fuel and other essential commodities. Most of the vehicles in the refuse collection fleet were donated by French companies, and raising foreign currency to purchase spares is a problem. The city has also grounded its ambulance fleet because of fuel shortages, and the council says it is unable to maintain its fleet of other vehicles because it cannot import spare parts.

Oh Cornelius! sad.gif What an awful awful thing- so awful you cannot wrap your mind around it.

I will pray- there are no words to say... God will have to give me the words in prayer.

I will also pray that Jesus use you in a powerful way as you testify- for we are saved by the Blood of the Lamb and by the Word of our testimony.

Love you. wub.gif

Thanks Julie, you can pray that things will work out: We are busy organising radio coverage via satellite radio, covering the whole of Africa with the gospel . We want to buy an hour a day ! It turns out its possible and we have all the material we need already edited for radio. At the moment we have enough to last six months if we broadcast every day. The we will just repeat what we have.

Pray that the Lord will provide what is needed, and that we will get the best time slot , so that when we broadcast we reach a lot of people.

Father,

O, Father we agree and cry out to you Lord for the salvation of
many in this time of tribulation and trial. Arise, O God and move
amongst your people. Break our hearts, Jesus, that compassion
and mercy flow out from the wellspring you are within us.

May the Blood of the Lamb Jesus be the line and boundary that
discerns and saves. Protect those in the mission field and keep
your hand upon transmission of Your Word, through those that
have been called to the radio ministry, and all ministries abroad.

Lord Jesus, beautiful are the feet of him that brings good tidings.
May your children in ministry, and all your children have feet bound
to paths of righteousness, and hands bound to the work of the Cross.
Let the words they speak be anointed for your purposes.

O, God of power and might...heaven and earth are filled with your
glory...let it shine forth in our hearts in these prayers for Africa. Amen

With the recent death of Ian Smith there is a lot of navel gazing going on about Zimbabwe. Whether or not Ian Smith was a racist or not is almost besides the point. The fact is that blacks under his rule were a hundred times better off than they are now. Recent history shows that blacks are better off being subjugated by whites than they are being subjugated by their own people.

I suppose to say this makes me a racist as well. I don't care. That's just a label. I know in my heart that all men are equal in the eyes of God. I simply state a fact of proven history which is repeated in nations all over the world and expecially in Africa. Under white rule they had equity, stability, prosperity and now they have chaos, murder and disease.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jh...1/22/do2202.xml

Robert Mugage himself praised Mr. Smith and described Rhodesia as a jewel of a country, with superb infrastructure and efficient modern economy.

Mr. Smith achieved this despite the haranguing of the world accusing Rhodesia of being an apartheid dictatorship and slapping all manner of trade embargos upon the nation.

Now look at the new nation of Zimbabwe and the appalling state the Mugabe has left it in after only 25 years.
Mr Smith correctly states that under his UDI Unilateral Declaration of Independence there were more smiling black faces in Rhodesia than in any other African nation. Slightly condascending perhaps but eminently true nonetheless. Zimbabweans today agree that they were much better off under Mr. Smith.

I would like to pay tribute to a great man of history who loved his people and served them in the best way that he could. He lived a life in power without corruption, and a life out of power in simplicity and humility. May he rest in peace.
