Myth: You have to study and get a degree to be a pastor.
That is a big myth and not anywhere in Scripture.
We have one example of a Scripture trained person . Paul.
Paul was a trained scholar in the Scriptures. He was a pharisee and he knew the Law very well. But what he preached, he did not get from "seminary" . He received it from the Lord Jesus Himself. It was a gift.
Let's look at how do you become a pastor:
Eph 4:11 And he (Jesus) gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:
OK, so in the same way that you get to be an apostle, prophet, evangelist and teacher: By gift.
So we can rest assure that the Lord did not have seminary in the beginning and its not necessary now.
Also: People today believe that the pastor is the head of the congregation. They pay him a salary.
If that is true, why is the pastor mentioned amongst all the other ministries that are gifts and why then do we not pay all of them a salary? Who decided to make them chief in charge? Who brought in the law that you can only be a pastor (this word meaning shepherd) when you have a degree in some university?
It does not ever tell us in the Bible to send our shepherds to a human institute so that they can be taught by humans how to shepherd the flock of God.
God gives that as a gift.
Facts to look for: Look in the Bible and try and find :Head Pastor, assistant Pastor.
Also: Has anybody noticed that in the church today, somebody has made all the other gifts serve under the pastor?
Have you noticed that there are five ministries (like fingers on the hand.........we are the body of Christ)
So the five-fold ministry is suppose to work as a unit and not a one-man-show.......... for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:
Question 1: Why do we pay the pastor, and not the prophet, teacher etc as well?
Question 2 : If it is a gift, is this gift lacking ? If its lacking then we believe we can add to it by human study and not by revelation and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Question 3: If seminary is the answer, then why do we not send out prophets to prophet-seminary ?And all the other gift-ministries as well? What can we call this course: Maybe: A Doctorate in : Finishing what God left out of His gifts.
Its not as silly as it sounds, that is exactly what people have done!
