This is today's reading in my one year bible. The first part was wonderful, but the second part just plain scared me:
Leviticus 25:47-27:13
47And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family:
48After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him:
49Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.
50And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an hired servant shall it be with him.
51If there be yet many years behind, according unto them he shall give again the price of his redemption out of the money that he was bought for.
52And if there remain but few years unto the year of jubile, then he shall count with him, and according unto his years shall he give him again the price of his redemption.

34Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

The curse of disobedience sounds so familiar, like I have lived that. It's so harsh but it is His Word and His Truth so I cannot overlook it. But by His Grace I have repented and each day I learn more about Him so that I may be obedient and receive His blessings into Life, though not my own but His. Thankfully (and again, graciously) this passage is not the end of His Word; The end is Jesus Christ. I admit that I don't know much, but I have faith (which is strengthened every day) in the One who does... I guess I just thought I'd see if anyone else thinks/has thought about this.
Full Version: Obedience And Disobedience
Leviticus is part of the Law of Moses.
That Law of Moses was a Covenant between God and the Children of Israel. IN OT TIMES!
It has NOTHING to do with any other nation.
especially in New Testament times, when ALL Jews and Gentiles should be Christians. (When Jews convert to Christianity, they are no longer bound by the OT Law of Moses)
The NT says that we christians can learn general principles from the OT .
and we can learn from Israel's successes and failures.
Every major NT doctrine has a picture-story in the OT.

In NT times,
We know that some un-believers have prospered in good health.

I am so glad your reading, and showing yourself approved unto God, do as the Bible says, and not that of man, and you'll grow to understand richly what the scriptures say, but let the bible interpret the bible. DO not let any man try to interpret it for you. Read it as it is written.
Pray that God will open unto you what is hidden within His written Word, and I PROMISE you He will.
