The Coffin of Christ

According to a Ynetnews.com article, "the cave in which Jesus Christ was buried has been found in Jerusalem."

That's right, Christians! Time for a brand new assault on our faith!

The following appears in the article, in part:

If it proves true, the discovery, which will be revealed at a press conference in New York Monday, could shake up the Christian world as one of the most significant archaeological finds in history.

The coffins which, according to the filmmakers held the remains of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene will be displayed for the first time on Monday in New York.
My first question, naturally, is how it could be "proven true" and who would do the proving? Suffice to say the burden of proof would be pretty high, especially when one considers that Jesus wasn't buried in a coffin to begin with, according to any of the gospels! Not only that, John 19:40-42 describes Christ's burial vividly (emphasis added mine):
Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
In John 20, Peter and John run to the tomb Christ was buried in upon hearing He had risen. In verse 5, John arrives at the tomb first and the story continues from there (emphasis added mine):
And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
Despite the fact the gospels speak of no casket whatsoever and Christ was buried hurriedly as detailed in Scripture, the article states the following, apparently in an attempt to justify the claims presently being made:
Although the cave was discovered nearly 30 years ago and the casket inscriptions decoded ten years ago, the filmmakers are the first to establish that the cave was in fact the burial site of Jesus and his family. The film, which documents the stages of the discovery, is the result of three years labor and research. It will be broadcast on the international Discovery Channel, Britain's Channel 4, Canada’s Vision and Israel’s Channel 8, which also took part in the film's production. According to the filmmakers, the film’s claim is based on close work with world-famous scientists, archaeologists, statisticians, DNA specialists and antiquities experts.
And who is buying this? Not this Christian, but we must prepare ourselves to defend against this lie from hell with the Word!

While there is a way to find Jesus Christ, He can not be found in a casket ANYWHERE! Blessed be the name of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ!

Write these Scriptures down, Christians, that you can be ready to share them with those who will be shaken when this unfolding lie goes mainstream on Monday and afterward: John 19: 38-42, John 20: 1-7

In closing, I leave you with the words of our living Savior, as recorded in Matthew 24:24-25: For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.

Every manner of lie imaginable is going to be propagated by those who are enemies of Christ from this point forward in an attempt to deceive us and weaken the Christian faith so we have to steel our minds beginning right now that we are not going to fall for any explanation of biblical events described in Scripture that contradicts Scripture!

What is left to say after all that? Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

The assaults are relentless and just never end! First the Da Vinci Code, The Gospel According to Judas, and now this. Next, they will "discover" the (forged) marriage certificate of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

How bizarre, science during the Renaissance worked passionately towards proving the things of God as true. Now science works passionately towards proving the things of God as false. Just as the Scriptures say that in the end times things will be reversed and turned upside down, good will be made to be like evil, and evil will be made to be like good. These are surely the end times. But REJOICE, for it just means that soon the King of Kings and Lord of Lords shall be the Almighty Victor.

This is the second time in less than 10 minutes that God has spoken this to me. I was so sad about things in my life, the way the world is....I was crying to God about how unfair it all is, that this is not the way the world was supposed to be. A few minutes later their was a two legged dog on the news named Faith, and while I can't explain it in words, her story told me that staying strong in the Lord while experiencing all these horrors was what Faith was all about. Then I came online and this post was the first thing I read!

Let's face it, brothers and sisters, the biggest obstacle to truly and finally -changing- society on Earth is Christianity. The secular world knows this. We are the last bastion of the 'Old World'. All of these attacks - and that's what this is, a frontal assault on the very core of our faith in the Savior - are intentional and coordinated.

We know the Body of Christ is the Restrainer holding back the Anti-Christ, the Son of Perdition. We are the last obstacle. The good news is that we are soon to be snatched away from this place, and then these poor folks will get to see what a world without Christians is really like.

Early Sunday morning, in the inky blackness before dawn, Roman soldiers stood guard over Christ's tomb. Knowing that to go to sleep on duty was an offense punishable by death , the highly trained unit remained alert. Their lives depended on it

Suddenly, " there was a violent earthquake " . Almost simultaneously , the predawn darkness was split by a light so brilliant it looked like a laser of lighting. The "lighting" took the shape of an angel who seemed to reach from heaven to earth. Against the blackness of the night sky, the terrifyingly awesome being fearlessly descended, walked over to the stone that blocked the entrance and flicked it away as though it were dust, and then sat on it

And the gaping hole where the stone had been, revealed there was nothing inside the tomb. The tomb was empty . Jesus Christ has risen from the dead just like He said He would. And the world has never been the same since !!!

Okay, I'm probably going to come across as harsh and I do want to apologize beforehand. First of all, the very idea of putting God in ANY kinds of box, whether it's a coffin or a triangle or a circle or even an imaginary one at that, is simply preposterous and offensive. Just how anyone could do that is beyond me. God is EVERYWHERE and SEES and HEARS EVERYTHING. But unfortnuately, we're surrounded by those think that they can, seen and unseen. We must be gentle as a dove and wise as a serpent. It has happens before and is happening now. But there will be a day that will not happen ever again.

AMEN!

You know, I get the strangest feeling about the fact it was the "Titanic" director, James Cameron making this supposed discovery. We all know what had happen to the actual ship that hits an iceberg on its maiden voyage. It went down and thousands had died. Yes, I most certainly am getting the strangest feeling about it. In God's own strange and mysterious way, He is telling us something, even through this deception.

Feb. 26, 2007 — In late 1982, Tova Bracha's family moved into a modest apartment in a cluster of cookie-cutter housing units in Talpiyot, a Jerusalem neighborhood. It's a place better known for its body shops and illicit casinos than earth-shattering archaeological finds.


A few days after moving in, her children were playing in the construction debris downstairs and came across what James Cameron's new documentary, "The Lost Tomb of Christ," maintains is the tomb of Jesus and his family.


The kids wiggled into the tomb and found burned Torah scrolls and 10 small caskets bearing the 2000-year-old bones of an ancient Jewish family. Six of them had inscriptions bearing the names Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Greek version of Mary Magdalene.


Bracha immediately phoned the archaeologists from Israel's Antiquities Authority. They sealed the tomb and studied the bones. For years, it was just another of the many tombs of ancient middle-class families who lived roughly in the time of Jesus.


Archaeologist: More Than 900 Tombs Like This One


Two years earlier, Israeli archaeologist Amos Kloner was the first to find the tomb. He found the tomb and the ossuaries — the urns or vaults used to hold the bones of the dead — interesting but of no particular archaeological importance. He said there are more than 900 buried tombs just like the "Jesus" tomb within a 2-mile radius of Talpiyot. Of them, 71 bear the name Jesus and two Jesus, son of Joseph. The tomb in Talpiyot is one of them. But the inscription, he said, was barely decipherable and therefore questionable.


At the time, Jesus was a very common name, as was Mary. But the cluster of all those names together, Jesus, Joseph Mary, not to mention what the filmmakers claim is Jesus' son, Judah, son of Jesus, is indeed unusual. Simply because the tomb is labeled a tomb that "belonged to a Jesus, doesn't make it the tomb of Jesus Christ," Kloner told ABC News.

Jerusalem-based biblical anthropologist Joe Zias goes a step further to discredit Cameron's documentary. "What they've done here," Zias said, "is they've simply tried in a very, very dishonest way to try to con the public into believing that this is the tomb of Jesus or Jesus' family. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Jesus."

"Unfortunately, this is a story full of holes, conjectures and problems," said Dr. Ben Witherington, author of What Have They Done With Jesus? and New Testament professor at Asbury Theological Seminary. "It will make good TV and involves a bad critical reading of history. Basically, this is old news with a new interpretation. We have known about this tomb since it was discovered in 1980. There are all sorts of reasons to see this as much ado about nothing much."



Witherington and other leading biblical scholars and archeologists say there are at least 10 reasons why the "Jesus Tomb" claim is completely bogus:



There is no DNA evidence that this is the historical Jesus of Nazareth
The statistical analysis is untrustworthy
The name "Jesus" was a popular name in the first century, appearing in 98 other tombs and on 21 other ossuaries
There is no historical evidence that Jesus was ever married or had a child
The earliest followers of Jesus never called him "Jesus, son of Joseph"
It is highly unlikely that Joseph, who died earlier in Galilee, was buried in Jerusalem, since the historical record connects him only to Nazareth or Bethlehem
The Talipot tomb and ossuaries are such that they would have belonged to a rich family, which does not match the historical record for Jesus
Fourth-century church historian Eusebius makes quite clear that the body of James, the brother of Jesus, was buried alone near the temple mount and that his tomb was visited in the early centuries, making very unlikely that the Talipot tomb was Jesus' "family tomb"
The two Mary ossuaries do not mention anyone from Migdal, but simply has the name Mary, one of the most common of all ancient Jewish female names
By all ancient accounts, the tomb of Jesus was empty, making it highly unlikely that it was moved to another tomb, decayed for one year's time, and then the bones put in an ossuary


"In light of all the incredible number of problems with the recent claim that Jesus' grave has been found, the time-honored, multi-faceted evidence for the bodily resurrection of Jesus is more convincing than ever," said Dr. Gary Habermas, an expert on the resurrection of Jesus and author of The Case for the Resurrection. Debunking "The Lost Tomb of Jesus"

According to a Gulf Times article, a top Israeli archaeologist has "rubbished claims featured in a documentary by award-winning film directors that the burial site of Jesus has been located and which suggests he had a son." Go figure!

On Sunday, March 4, the Discovery Channel will air the documentary "The Lost Tomb of Jesus" by Oscar-winning director James Cameron and Simcha Jacobovici for the first time. According to the documentary, a tomb containing 10 caskets was located in the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Talpiot in 1980. These caskets, according to the makers of the documentary at least, contain inscriptions that bear "the Hebrew names Yeshu Ben Yossef (Jesus son of Joseph), Yehuda Bar Yeshu (Judah son of Jesus), Martha and Myriam (Mary) - all names associated with key players in the New Testament."

Israeli archaeologist Amos Kloner, who ironically "documented the tomb as the Jewish burial cave of a well-off family more than 10 years ago, is adamant there is no evidence to support claims that it was the burial site of Jesus." That's right, people! He says there is NO EVIDENCE to support Cameron and Jacobovici's claims!

The Israel’s Antiquities Authority recently refused to comment on the documentary's claims according to the Gulf Times article, "although in 1996 a spokesman said that the probability of the caskets belonging to the family of Jesus were “next to zero.”"

Director James Cameron, who directed the mega-hit movie "Titanic", is quoted in the article as saying, "It doesn’t get bigger than this. We’ve done our homework; we’ve made the case; and now it’s time for the debate to begin."

To Mr. Cameron, my reply is this: "You may have done your homework and packaged a lie really well, giving the naive and those looking for a reason to deny the gospel of Jesus Christ something else to run their blasphemous mouths about, but it is FAR from time for the debate to begin. All you have done is prove, yet again, just how accurate the Word of God is!"

Matthew 24:24-26: For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

What are secret chambers? In the original Greek, the word is tameion {tam-i'-on}, which is defined as:

1) a storage chamber, storeroom

2) a chamber esp. an inner chamber

3) a secret room
Some words that are synonymous with secret chambers, as used in this instance, are closet and storehouse.

So, do we, in the case of James Cameron's "The Lost Tomb of Jesus" see evidence supportive of the Scripture above? Yes! Precisely yes!

Since the so-called "tomb of Jesus" was located in 1980, it has been stored in the Israeli Antiquities Authority archive, which is a storehouse for historical items related to the Jewish people.

So, back to Matthew 24:26:
Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
So much for James Cameron's "case" he spent countless money to make! It's up in smoke before it even aired! Praise the Lord! That's my King!

On March 4th at 9 p.m. Eastern, I think I'll tune in and watch Cameron's documentary just for the entertainment value of it, all the while thinking just how great it is that our Lord knew allegations like these were going to come forth in the prophetic future and laid it out in Scripture for us to see, telling us not to believe it!
