A penny was a day wages in the time this was written. Due to the demand for alternative fuels increasing, and more nations becomming industrialized, and climate change has made the cost of wheat, corn, and other crops break record highs. Prophecy is comming true. In some countries, we can see inflation much worse than a bushel of wheat for a day's wages...in Zimbawe a loaf of bread costs a month's wages! There have been worse depressions, but this will be global...and quickly following, famine. It's so many other judgements working together that will be devestating, not one or two by themselves. This shows GOD is at work and man will have no excuse not to deny His existance and no excuse not to repent (they don't have any excuse now as far as I'm concerned, but first the gospel must be preached to every person).

I am not so sure about every person, but rather every nation. This is already fulfilled. Here is the Greek/English interlinear from the Textus Receptus:

Rev 6;6 amplified bible
a quart of wheat for a denarius (a day's wages).........this is a poetic way of describing famine
but do not hurt the oil and the wine!..........what does that mean?
is it literal oil and wine? world-wide?
or is it symbolic? ........ oil = Holy Spirit.........wine = the Joy of the Lord?
?
educate me!
the Anointing and the Joy?
verse 9....christian martyrs at the foot of the altar in heaven
verse 11........more christians will be killed

I did my best to exegete my understanding of the verse pictorially.
Wheat is a staple. Oil and wine were/are luxury items. I believe the pictures speak a thousand words. Some live luxuriantly while turning a blind eye to the suffering of others.
In the bigger picture we find this manifest in the Mother of Harlots who lures men to perdition by ensnaring them in the things of this world.
There has never been a greater separation, or greater extremes, of rich and poor in the world. Consider the first picture above, in light of there being several homes - that is residences - in the U.S. today that are for sale for over 100 million dollars each.

There is an important thing to understand about the mother of harlots:
Rev 18:24
And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.(Greek/English Interlinear
(tr) NT) Revelation 18:24 kai <2532> {AND} en <1722> {IN} auth <846> {HER [THE]} aima <129> {BLOOD} profhtwn <4396> {OF PROPHETS} kai <2532> {AND} agiwn <40> {SAINTS} eureqh <2147> (5681) {WAS FOUND,} kai <2532> {AND} pantwn <3956> {OF
ALL} twn <3588> {
THE} esfagmenwn <4969> (5772) {
SLAIN} epi <1909> {
ON} thV <3588> {
THE} ghV <1093> {
EARTH.}
So this would seem to go at leasst as far back as when Cain slew Able.
If that doesn't fit our doctrine, is it the verse that needs repair?.

if i remember correctly , Shekel said:
there are many Babylons:
iraq is literal babylon
the city on 7 hills is spiritual babylon (Rev 17;9)
pentagon is military babylon
waqshington dc is political babylon
new york city is econmomic babylon
san francisco is homosexual babylon
hollywood and las vegas is entertainment babylon
the UN is the united world government babylon
and on and on and on.........
Babylon, in it's broadest sense, is the world system of opposition to God and the things of God.
please pray that the toothache babylon in my right lower jaw will stop hurting
thanks!

Quite honestly, I do not know if what Im writing is the acurate interpretation of this scripture verse, but by matching it with these other verses and facts, it makes the most sense spiritually speaking (to me anyway).
Revelation 6
5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”
Joel 1:10-11
10 The field is wasted,
The land mourns;
For the grain is ruined,
The new wine is dried up,
The oil fails.
11 Be ashamed, you farmers,
Wail, you vinedressers,
For the wheat and the barley;
Because the harvest of the field has perished.
Matthew 13:38 "The field is the world"
Rev 4:7
The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle.
The four living creatures are the 4 Gospels Matthew , Mark, Luke and John
The 1st gospel writer, Matthew, corresponds to the first living creature, which is a lion (a King).
At the end of Matthew, when commissioning the disciples, Jesus said: 'All authority is given to me in heaven and in earth.' These are the words of a king.
Mark corresponds to the second living creature, the ox, which is a servant animal. Accordingly he sees Jesus as a servant, (the exact opposite of a king).
The 3rd gospel writer, Luke, corresponds to the third living creature. He sees Jesus as a man. Luke was a doctor, concerned with people, and it is appropriate that he should view Jesus in this way. Only Luke gives us all the human details of Jesus' birth.
John's gospel corresponds to the fourth living being, the flying eagle. The eagle belongs to the heavens and so represents God. John sees Jesus as God. The other three beings are creatures of the earth. As we would expect, John's gospel is very different from those of Matthew, Mark and Luke.
Matthew and Luke both have an earthly birth story and a genealogy. John cannot do that. God does not have such things. Instead he gives a heavenly birth story. We find the simple, direct and sublime statements: 'In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the word was God'. Soon after we read, 'The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.' In Luke the birth story is human; in John it is divine.
This is the reason why John heard the voice in the midst of the four living creatures, the voice is
one that is surrounded by the gospel message.
The wheat and barley are the message of the gospel that are now being sold by the apostate or "fallen away" church.
This is why the phrase “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius
If you do not believe that the word of God is being sold, go to almost any christian tv program, christian bookstore, or Sunday service and compare them to the preaching of the gospel of the 1st century
church.
The wine which is used in ceremonies like the mass and communion, is no longer taken in rememberance,
but is now a ritual.
Im not certain of the oil, except that; it seems to always signify the Holy Spirit and quite likely here it is
that the Holy Spirit is now mostly spoken about but there are very few that are actually filled with the Spirit of God.
Peace in Christ,
Chris

The spiritual meaning is "The Gospel of the Power of the Kindom of God will be shown to all nations then the end will come". Everyone on earth will see the Power of God and the Gospel of the soon coming kingdom will spread like yeast in a lump of dough starting three and a half lunar years before the return of Christ.
