Since I read the thread about "the wedding itself". I thought some may like to know what occurs after the couple is engaged....it has a lot of prophectic words concerning the Bride and the Bridgegroom. I think you will all find this interesting:

Kiddushin is far more binding than an engagement as we understand the term in modern English; in fact, Rambam speaks of a period of engagement before the kiddushin. Once kiddushin is complete, the woman is legally the wife of the man. The relationship created by kiddushin can only be dissolved by death or divorce. However, the spouses do not live together at the time of the kiddushin, and the mutual obligations created by the marital relationship do not take effect until the nisuin is complete(the wedding).

The nisuin (from a word meaning "elevation"), (strange word for the word wedding, "elevation?", something I didn't know) completes the process of marriage. Just before the wedding, for a week the groom "sets their home for after the wedding ahead of time" and then comes for her 7 days later...and the wedding festival begins. Then for the next week they "celebrate their marriage undisturbed". :D

In the past, the kiddushin and nisuin would routinely occur as much as a year apart. During that time, the husband would prepare a home for the new family.

There was always a risk that during this long period of separation, the woman or man would discover that they wanted to marry another woman/man or in a Christians case "chooses the other side". :o

I do know their are more prophectic things than just these. I will do further research and get back in fill in what I do learn. I hope these little blimps of info fascinate more than just me! I find the engagement as prophetic as the wedding! to all, your sis, hannah :)

Do I need to point out the prophetic things one can see in just this amount of information? Anyone else see too? :D

Here is some more kinda the same but better written about "the engagement period"....

As carried over to the modern tradition, there was a reception and feast (often 7 days!) to celebrate the occasion.

You can no doubt recognize some of these traditions in the weddings you have attended. However, the Jewish ceremony still contains some of these unusual elements. We do not wait for the one-year engagement time nor is a divorce necessary to break it off before the modern ceremony. Interestingly enough, if you have been to a modern Jewish wedding, you will still see the erusin and nisuin elements as part of the same celebration. Although the two elements are combined in the same ceremony, you will still witness the two separate cups to illustrate the two phases of the wedding.

All this becomes quite fascinating when we reflect that Yeshua, our Messiah, used the Jewish wedding as a teaching tool many times in his ministry to the Jewish crowds. For those of us who believe on Him, the two cups are especially informative. Afterall, we are said to be betrothed to Yeshua (II Cor.11:2). He even shared the first cup with his disciples, which means this is a binding covenant (Mat.26:27). Consistent with the Jewish wedding, our bridegroom has departed and we do not fully live together at this time.

Yet, we have our job to be ready and Yeshua is preparing the place for us (Jn.14). We have been waiting patiently in the engagement period, yet the next event will be the father giving the command for the sounding the shofar (I Thes.4:16). Then the second cup will be shared and the feast will begin, as we will always be together with the groom from that point on. . Indeed, the wedding, especially the Jewish wedding ceremony, is an incredible picture of God’s plan for us in Messiah. Sometimes the engagement time seems long and burdensome. Yet, God wants us to never waiver from our covenant/engagement to the groom Yeshua. Next time you are at a wedding, remember it is even more than a joyous celebration of human love. Every wedding should be a reminder of the coming second cup, which Messiah will share with his bride very soon. We have all been invited. The big question is have you sent in your RSVP?

I just liked this article, hope you like it too! your sis  hannah :)

I found another really good link about the wedding feast and the engagement:
