Hello all :)

I am currently is discussion on an atheist forum with a mormon. I posted a list of joseph smiths false prophesies. The mormon has replayed by posting what he says are false prophesies in the bible. I am posting them here in the hope that learned defenders of The Word of God will help me defend the truth of scripture. I an adding thoughts below each prophesy. Some of them i do not considered prophesies anyway.

Quote

Some false prophecies in the Bible, ibid.

The Lord told David that the men of Keilah "will deliver thee up [to Saul]" (1 Samuel 23:12). This did not happen, however, because David fled from the city (verses 13-14).

To me this is not a prophecy but a warning from God to David. Prophecy to me is when a person speaks in the name of God a message from God.

Quote

Isaiah told king Hezekiah, "Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live." (2 Kings 20:1) But after the king pleaded with the Lord, the prophet delivered a new message, saying that fifteen years would be added to his life (verses 2-6).

Any ideas on how to answer this one?

Quote

The Lord told Moses that he would destroy the Israelites and make of Moses a greater nation than they. When Moses protested that this would be wrong, the Lord changed his mind (Numbers 14:11-20).

This again is not a prophecy because God talked to Moses directly. Therefore a prophecy was not made.

Quote

The Lord said through Elisha that the combined armies of Israel, Judah and Edom would "smite every fenced city" of Moab and that he would "deliver the Moabites also into your hand." But one city, Kir-hareseth, was not taken. When Mesha, the Moabite king, sacrificed his son on the city wall, the Israelites left and went home. The prophecy was not fulfilled because the Israelites would not cooperate with the Lord's wishes.

Any Ideas?

Through Ezekiel, the Lord declared that the Lebanese city of Tyre would be destroyed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadrezzar, never to be rebuilt (Ezekiel 26, especially verses 4, 7, 12, 14). Though Nebuchadrezzar laid siege against Tyre from 598 to 586 B.C., he was never able to take the city. The Lord then told Ezekiel that, in compensation for his not taking Tyre, Nebuchadrezzar would be given the land of Egypt, (Ezekiel 29:17-10). Its people would be slain and its rivers dry up (Ezekiel 30:10-12; 32:11-15) and the land of Egypt would remain uninhabited for forty years (Ezekiel 29:11-13). But though Nebuchadrezzar defeated an Egyptian army in battle, he never conquered Egypt either.

I have heard that the first city of tyre was indeed destroyed and that is was built on an island near where a new tyre was built. The new tyre was not rebuilt on the same location as the old tyre. Also i believe many of the prophecies added in here are yet to be for filled.

Isaiah, in his prophesy against Babylon (Isaiah 13:1), declared that the Medes would slay men, women and children and that Babylon would "be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation" (Isaiah 13:17-20). In 539 B.C., Cyrus, king of the Medes and Persians, took Babylon without bloodshed, and made it one of the principal cities of his empire. Babylon remained inhabited for centuries afterward

Any idea's ?

I would appreciate any information you all have. Any comments about my comments are also welcomed. :)

I want to ask that before anyone answers here , that careful thought is taken. Our brother needs answers and not confusion. We have enough people on the forum that has the knowledge to help with the answers, so if you know anybody, contact them, so we can all learn.

2Cor.3:18) But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.
If your face is truly unveiled you will accept what happened at the cross and see by faith the finished work of Christ in the mirror. Only in this walk of faith are we “transformed into the same image”.

But Nebuchadrezzar's conquest did not "scrape [Tyre's] dust away from her and make her a shining, bare surface" as Ezekiel had foretold. Nor was Zechariah's prophecy fulfilled, which said that Tyre would be pitched "into the sea." (Zecharia 9:4) Were these prophecies inaccurate? Not at all. Over 250 years after Ezekiel's prophecy and nearly 200 years after Zechariah's, Tyre was totally destroyed by Greek armies under Alexander the Great, in 332 B.C. "With the debris of the mainland portion of the city," explains the Encyclopedia Americana, "he built a huge [causeway] in 332 to join the island to the mainland. After a seven month's siege... he captured and destroyed Tyre."

Thus, as predicted by Ezekiel and Zechariah, Tyre's dust and debris did end up in the midst of the water. She was left a bare crag, "a place to spread nets upon," as a visitor to the site observed. So, prophecies spoken hundreds of years earlier were fulfilled in exact detail

This whole thing gives me a bad feeling. I'm not sure people on an atheist forum are interested in what we have to say. What I'm wondering is, what are Christians and Mormons doing on atheist forums discussing prophecy? It doesn't seem to me that anybody on the other end of your discussion would be really interested. How do you know they're not all atheists posing as other groups that they know Christians would love to discuss religion with, trying to trip you up? Seems to me that atheists are more the type to say that anything in the Bible would be false prophecy. I'm just saying it sounds insincere to me, and you may not have who you think you have on the other end.
