bike ride with Christ

When I first met Christ
It seemed as though life was rather like a bike ride,
But it was a tandem bike,
And I noticed that Christ
Was in the back helping me pedal.

I don't know just when it was that
He suggested we change places,
But life has not been the same since.

When I had control, I knew the way,
It was rather boring, but predictable...
It was the shortest distance between two points.

But when He took the lead,
He knew delightful long cuts,
Up mountains, and through rocky places,
At breakneck speeds,
It was all I could do to hang on!
Even though it looked like madness,
He said, "Pedal"

I worried and was anxious and asked,
"Where are you taking me?"
He laughed and didn't answer,
And I started to learn to trust.

I forgot my boring life
And entered into the adventure.
And when I'd say, "I'm scared,"
He'd lean back and touch my hand.

He took me to people with gifts that I needed.
Gifts of healing, acceptance, and joy.
He said, "Give the gifts away;
They're extra baggage, too much weight."

So I did, I gave them to the people we met,
And I found that in giving I received,
And still our burden was light.

I did not trust Him, at first, In control of my life.
I thought He'd wreck it;
But He knows bike secrets,
Knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners,
Knows how to jump to clear high rocks,
Knows how to fly to shorten scary passages.

And I am learning to shut up
and pedal in the strangest places,
And I'm beginning to enjoy the view
And the cool breeze on my face
With my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ.

And when I'm sure I just can't do anymore,
He just smiles and says...
"Pedal."
Ge 9:13 - Show Context
I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Ge 9:14 - Show Context
Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,

Ge 9:16 - Show Context
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

Eze 1:28 - Show Context
Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

Re 4:3 - Show Context
And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow , resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.

Re 10:1 - Show Context
Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars

Gosh, I have been impressed for over a year to get a bike. Finally in the last
few weeks it was evident to me that I was going to buy a bike. I decided I
wanted a blue one, but they were out, so I thought I would wait. But there is
was ..."get a bike". So I went back and bought the pinkish purple sort of
color...then I thought abou the helmet...black with pink things on it. Yikes.

I went to another store cuz I don't like those alien headgears, and I picked
up one that looked like a football helmet. When I got home and opened it
to try it on I found it was a Hannah Montana helmet. Not that I know who
she is but it sorta bothers me that she has her name on my helmet.

Yesterday I actually rode the bike. I posted somewhere else about this
and I must have gotten it in time to hear God speak through this poem.
God is interesting if we just don't weary. Praise God He doesn't weary of me.

I think He wants me to trust in Him to take me on down the road..

Thanks for sharing this.

Your welcome run2Jesus and Signet, I have enjoyed this poem for years. Actually, the longer my walk with the Lord goes, the beter I understand it.

As long as Jesus is with you on the tandem, He is not living *IN* you.

Sounds like the real fun!
Back to total surrender so we can be free for just obedience to His Will. Yes. Yes. Yes. We are getting out of the boat and walking on the water with Jesus. Let go and let God. Let the fun begin!
