Forum Terms & Rules

Welcome!

New registrants go through a short "moderation" period. This means that your first few submissions will be quickly reviewed by a moderator before becoming visible. Successful submissions automatically promote you to full "Member" status. Offensive registrants are deleted without notice.

Conduct:

Please act courteously to others, regardless of opinion. Click here to read our statement of faith!

We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violates any law.

Persistent spreading of obvious heresy will not be tolerated. Heresy can mean any teaching that conflicts with the above standard Statement of Faith, and/or taking a legitimate biblical truth and pushing it to an extreme. Examples of extremes are legalism, libertinism, "serpent seed", etc. Extremes in doctrine are more difficult to detect; therefore, to preserve the integrity of the forum, we reserve the right to remove divisive members who persistently teach extreme views, as decided by a team of moderators.

When quoting other websites:

When quoting other websites for discussion, as a guide, our understanding of “fair use” means that up to a quarter of an article or three paragraphs (whatever is the lesser) can be pasted into the forum. Care should be exercised when quoting from personal websites; whereas one can usually quote more liberally from news articles, yet still within the stated guidelines. It must be made clear before a quotation that it is a quote and separate from your own thoughts, and a link given.
QUOTE
What is the fair use doctrine?
“In certain circumstances, a person or organization can reproduce copyrighted material without paying royalties--fees paid to the copyright holder for the privilege of reproducing the copyrighted material" (Miller & Jentz, 2006, p. 147). Section 107 of the Copyright Act (Title 17, U.S. Code) outlines these provisions. Fair use includes "criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research" (Copyright.gov). Section 107 sets four factors in determining whether or not a particular use is considered fair (Copyright.gov, 2006). The distinction between fair use and infringement may be unclear and not easily defined, because the specific number of words, lines, or notes that may safely be taken without permission is not explicitly stated. However, in all cases, quotation and proper citation MUST BE USED when engaging in fair use of the original author's material! Resources: Copyright. (2006). U.S. copyright office. Forum rules have been revised for the first time since November of 2007.

The Christian-forum.net Admins and Moderators have revised the Forum Terms & Rules for the first time since November of 2007. Although the rules are mostly the same, there is a clarification about "fair use" of published articles, and more definition in regard to the subject of heretical teachings:

We have also made some sweeping changes to the way the Debates Forum is used. In the past, we encouraged (and sometimes forcibly placed) members who disagree with the Board's Statement of Faith to remain only in the Debates Forum. This would allow them to continue to participate in the Board, but they were restricted to only that forum. This was done to prevent atheists and those bend on disturbing the membership of the Board with heretical teachings, and yet allow more extreme points of view.

Beginning today, we are no longer using the Debates forum for that purpose. We will still have the Debates Forum, but it will no longer to be used for it's previous purpose. Instead, over the next few weeks, we will be notifying those members that are continually troublesome - i.e., constantly quarrelsome and/or rude, pushing agendas for extreme doctrines, etc - to shift their behavior to be more in line with the Christian values of charity, mercy, grace and forgiveness towards one another, and/or not to push extreme points of view. If that fails, then the offending member will be put on 30 day read only. If there are repeated offenses in the same vein, the Board Admins will consider banning the member. We hope to never have to do that. So the word is, please be respectful of others opinions, even if you hold an opposing view. However, if a member seems to be going to the extremes over a particular doctrine, or heresy is being taught, then alert the Moderators and we will investigate as soon as possible.

We are also adding more moderators to the Board. We will announce who those new people are soon. The new moderator positions will be entered into for a three month trial period. After that, the Admins of the Board will decide which ones to keep and which to ask to leave the ranks of Moderator.

While we do our best to patrol the Board as often as we can, the Moderating Staff is not able to read each and every post from every member on the Board. However, we are trying to be much more responsive. It is possible that in some cases, members who are on the receiving end of moderation may feel it is unfair or wrong. We apologize for offending anyone, but we are doing the best we can and we are doing prayerfully and with lots of counsel.

Blessings to all of our members in the name of our Risen SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST
