Catching rainwater can be dangerous. Dirt and salt (if near the coast) accumulate. You'd need to divert the first rain until it's rinsed. Asphalt roofs have deteriorating asphalt residue. Tin roofs are composed of a zinc/lead alloy. Galvalume roofs are an aluminum/zinc alloy. Aluminum and lead are both very bad news. Painted metal roofs can give off oxidized paint. Wood or slate roofs are probably the best bet. Moss & algae may be present but they are common around streams w/ great water running over them.

Thanks for that info, I was talking to a guy yesterday that showed me his windmill & solar stuff
and he was talking about getting water from his tin roof. I will have to tell him.

9 months ago, i bot a new hand pump, to put on a shallow well,

just like the old pitcher-pumps down on the farm, 50 years ago,

$50.00 from China,

it will pull water from about 20 feet down,

if our COUNTY WATER and powerlines ever fail,,,,,,,i might try putting my hand-pump on one of our local wells

how the mighty have fallen!

where can i buy a mule and milk-cow?

I have a swimming pool and I'm sure the whole neighborhood will be at my door.
