In Matthew 2:5-6, Jesus fulfills the prophecy that the Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem... except that this prophecy in Micah 5:2 refers to a military leader who was suppose to defeat the Assyrians, which Jesus never did. Or at least He would be helping them raise up against the Assyrians, and in this context it would read as if Jesus would be there.

Hi Timothy,
Micah 5 is speaking of the future....it will happen! God tells us that He will send a King that will be from Bethlehem. He will be our Shepherd and we will be....His warriors, His young lions!
Micah 5:1 Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
Until the 2nd Advent our enemy will be here. Historically it was the Assyrian (that is one of the names of Satan). In the last days it will be the false Messiah, antichrist, false prophet....all the same person. To gather thyself in troops means...know who your enemy is and who you are standing with!
5:3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
The house of Israel (10 lost tribes) will find themselves...know who they are. They are the Christians of today!
5:5 And this Man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
The Assyrian (Satan) tries to play king...he will pretend to be Christ returning at the end of days. The seven shepherds are the seven thousand elect of God and with the seven is...Christ, making eight principal men.
5:6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria, with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall He deliver us from the Assyrian when He cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
Nimrod is a reference to Babylon and the "sword" is the sword of the Lord - His truth, His Word.
5:7 The remant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
The "remnant of Jacob" are the seven thousand elect of God. There are many more and they are the kings and queens of the Gentiles.
5:8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
The weapon that will be used is truth. These lions of God rip will rip visciously, with the truth and some shall be offended but....their lives depend upon it.
You don't have a soul...You are a soul...You have a body ~ C.S. Lewis
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me ~ John 15:6
There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For He shall give His angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. ~ Psalms 91:10-12
